Years of British provocation led the United States to declare war in 1812.  Americans presumed the fight would be easy – “a mere matter of marching” – but it was anything but! In some ways, the War of 1812 marked the end of Colonial and Revolutionary America, and the beginning of the Age of Jackson and the coming of the Civil War.
